The Kedron SHS Interact Club's motto is “Service Above Self". It is a school-based program for secondary school students and is supported by Nundah Rotary Club and a mentor Rotarian. Interact is a club for students who like to make a difference in the lives of others by raising awareness of issues and fundraising to help people.
Interact enables students to work collaboratively, set goals, and plan ways of offering service locally, nationally and internationally.
Interact members:
- conduct hands-on service projects
- work together to benefit others
- develop citizenship and leadership skills
- show great respect for others
- act to assist with local, national and international issues
- choose their own projects and offer service to others
- work with a local Rotary Club
Some of their activities include visits to aged care facilities (where they hold performances, meet with and play bocce and bingo with the elderly residents), visits to Queensland Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald Houses (where they take Easter eggs and non-perishable foods for sick children and their families). Some of their fundraising events include bake sales, pancake days, sausage sizzles, dances, dunk the teacher and raffles.
Projects they've participated in, include the Ponytail Project, Food Plant Solutions, Solar Buddies (solar lights for energy poverty nations), shelter boxes (for families impacted by natural disasters), packing birthing kits and sanitary items, preparing food for the homeless and they've collected old phones for victims of DV and the homeless. They've held food drives for St Vincent de Paul Drive and book drives for RARE. Interact members connect with our community through guest speakers from a wide variety of charities, a local community centre and a local primary school (participating in their reading program) and much, much more.
