Kedron State High School is located on approximately 12 hectares of land bordering the Kedron Brook. Originally within the lands of the Turrbul People, the site was used for horse racing from the 1880s. The colourful racing identity John Wren became a part owner of the established race course in 1912.

When the school opened as part of the expanding Queensland state educational system in 1956, some of the race course buildings were still in place. Over the decades, new buildings and landscaped grounds have accommodated the growth in student numbers from 274 in 1956 to approaching 1700 students in 2020.

The 20,000 plus students who have attended Kedron, reflect both the changing demographics of the Queensland population and the educational aspirations of those families who have chosen to send their children to our school. There has always been a multicultural mix in the school, and it is this diversity that has been the cornerstone of a school culture that is inclusive and welcoming.

Amongst the past students of the school are Professor Kenneth Wiltshire of the University of Queensland, renowned actress Rowena Wallace, opera singer Jason Barry-Smith, film and television producer Lance Reynolds, baseball player David Nilsson, scientist Adrianne Pope, Sydney Swans AFL player Aliir Aliir and Brisbane Lions player Ally Anderson; along with thousands of men and women who carry the Kedron name and education to all parts of the world in a diversity of occupations. Kedron SHS has a proud tradition of working closely with families to provide the learning environment and values that shape future learners and leaders.
