Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome to 2024.
I hope everyone has had a fantastic break. I am looking forward to welcoming our seniors back to school for their final phase of learning.
Following are a few reminders for the start of the Year.
Swimming Carnival:
- The swimming carnival will be held on Thursday 25th January.
- If students are planning to attend they must have submitted a permission form.
- They will need to be in sports uniform.
- Students must ensure they are sun smart and have a hat, water bottle and sunscreen.
Mobile Phone and Portable Technologies:
- From Term 1 2024, all state school students must keep their mobile phones switched off and 'away for the day' during school hours. Notifications on wearable devices, such as smartwatches, must be switched off so that phone calls, messages and other notifications cannot be sent or received during school hours.
- This policy also applies to student attendance at school activities, such as representative school sport, excursions and camps, unless otherwise determined by the school principal.
- Students may only use their mobile phone or have wearable device notifications enabled during these times if they are participating in a teacher-led educational activity that complies with the school's local implementation approach, or have an approved exemption for medical, disability and/or wellbeing reasons.
Uniform:
- The purpose of our uniform is to ensure that equality exists amongst all students at Kedron SHS and to develop a sense of pride in and identification with our school.
- Can we ask that all students check to make sure they are adhering to the uniform guidelines in preparation for the start of school.
It is important to check the following before the students start the year.
*nails are natural and have no polish on them
*Students are clean shaven
*Hair is of a natural hue and a conservative hair style. Long hair is to be up if it touches shoulders.
*Eyelashes are natural
*only one piercing in the lobe of each ear. No other piercings
*No make up
Gates:
- Our new fencing and gates were put in last year.
- From the beginning of 2024 the gates around the school will be locked from 9:00am
- Students and parents will still be able to enter the school grounds after 9:00am but only through the front gate.
- The pedestrian gate on Gorman street will remain closed during pick up and will be used for students travelling on buses. Other students will be asked to leave via another exit.
- This is to keep out students safe and prevent entry from the school from external parties
Pick Up Zones:
Just a reminder that Gorman St is not a pick up zone for students.
This is a designated bus pick up spot
We kindly ask that if you are picking up your student you do so from the pick up zone at the front of the school.
We understand that this can be a busy area if you are organising an alternative pick up location with your student we ask that you do not use Gorman St as it is heavily congested with bus traffic.
