Vocational Education and Training (VET) provides pathways for all students, particularly those seeking further education and training, and those seeking employment-specific skills. Students should consider VET when developing their senior education and training (SET) Plan or equivalent. This planning helps students structure their learning around their abilities, interests and ambitions, and map out what, where and how they will study during their senior schooling.
The benefits VET offers to students include:
- development of work-related skills that enhance employability
- access to learning opportunities beyond the traditional curriculum, including work-based learning
- competency-based assessment that meets industry standards
- pathways to further training, education and tertiary learning.
At Kedron SHS students can participate in a range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) opportunities including; Internal VET subjects studied on campus and a number of External Programs where students study off campus (e.g. TAFE and Other RTO's.) to participate in, that provide students with a Nationally Recognised Qualification. There is also opportunities for students to secure School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SAT's) in a broad range of industry areas.

Suitability for students to participate in VET Courses and SAT's
- Whichever program your Student chooses the focus should be, that it aligns with future career or study pathway. School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs) allow high school students to work for an employer, train towards a recognised qualification and complete their secondary school studies.
- A flexible school program allows students to effectively combine a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT) while studying for their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
- Following our great school ethos "The Kedron Way" – students wishing to represent KSHS must adhere strictly to our attendance, behaviour and academic policies and must also ensure they are responsible to catch up on any missed work due to work and study commitments.
- The school supports students by providing educational advice and guidance about VET qualifications and VET contribution to the QCE.

Students' Own Placement
If you're keen to find a placement for your student there are a couple of bits of information that you might find useful. If you find a business who agrees to place a student, simply forward their details to the VET Team. The school will liaise between them and home to complete the necessary paperwork.
