Kedron State High School Students in years 11 and 12 can choose from a range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) learning pathways as part of their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), providing them with nationally-recognised qualifications that deliver the skills and knowledge required for specific industries and occupations. Some qualifications can award QCE points, specific to the qualification and will be outlined when advertised. When enrolling into an external qualification please consider the following:
- Qualifications and courses are delivered by Registered Training Organisations (RTO's) such as: TAFE Qld etc.
- Students attend qualification/ courses offsite usually one day per week and is the student's responsibility to source own transport to and from
- Applications must align to future career and study pathways
- All applications are administered by Kedron SHS and student attendance and academic reports are received from RTO for review and monitoring
- Final approval of application is from the senior school Deputy Principal/ ITD and VET HOD
Kedron State High School Students in year 10 can participate in TAFE's Trade Taster program, run every year exclusive to year 10 students in the Greater Brisbane area. The Year 10 Trade Taster Program allows eligible high school students to try out a trade without needing to commit to a full qualification or apprenticeship. You get to see if a trade is the right option for you, or test out a potential career path that you are considering in the future. If your applications is successful, you will attend Bracken Ridge TAFE one day a week, for 7 weeks in either term 2 or term 3. You will try a number of different trades and complete your Construction White card in this program. Suitability for students to participate in VET Courses:
- Whichever qualification your Student chooses it must align with future career or study pathway.
- A flexible school program allows students to effectively combine completion of an external qualification while studying for their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
- Following our great school ethos "The Kedron Way" – students wishing to represent KSHS must adhere strictly to our attendance, behaviour and academic policies and must also ensure they are responsible to catch up on any missed work due to work and study commitments.
- The school supports students by providing educational advice and guidance about VET qualifications and VET contribution to the QCE.
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
All students studying VET courses are required to apply for a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
The USI system is a register of qualifications obtained by each student and is a useful tool for keeping track of qualifications earned over their lifetime. RTOs cannot issue a qualification unless a USI has been supplied. As such, students will be required to set up a USI External link before applying for a VET course.
