Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

At Kedron SHS students can participate in a range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) opportunities including; Internal VET subjects studied on campus and a number of External Programs where students study off campus (e.g. TAFE and Careers Australia.) to participate in that provide students with a Nationally Recognised Qualification. There is also opportunities for students to secure School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SAT’s) in a broad range of industry areas

Suitability for students to participate in VET Courses and SAT’s

Whichever program your child chooses the focus should be that it it aligns with your future career  study pathway. School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs) allow high school students to work for an employer, train towards a recognised qualification and complete their secondary school studies. A flexible school program allows students to effectively combine a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT) while studying for their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

Following our great school ethos "The Kedron Way" – students wishing to represent KSHS must adhere strictly to our attendance, behaviour and academic policies and must also ensure they are responsible to catch up on any missed work due to work and study commitments.

School based Apprenticeships and Trainineeships (SATS)

A flexible school program allows students to effectively combine a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT) while studying for their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)

School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs) also provide opportunities to:

•    gain new skills, learn about workplaces, and develop confidence

•    put skills learnt at school into practice in a real work environment

•    work towards a vocational qualification that's recognised by industry and can count towards a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)

•    fast-track students to where they want to be when they finish school - whether that's a job or further training.

White Card – Construction Industry

The White Card course is a requirement for anyone who wants to work in the construction industry.  The White Card can be delivered a number of ways.  Search for your local provider online or see KSHS VET staff for companies who deliver it online, in person or in a school group setting.

Blue card – Working Children Check

This assesses a person’s eligibility to hold a blue card or exemption card based on their known past police and disciplinary information. This process also disqualifies certain people upfront and prevents people from working with children whose past behaviour indicates they are not eligible to enter regulated child-related employment.

Students can apply through the KSHS VET office and will need 2 forms of identification (one being a signature document – passport, learners/drivers licence, bank account card)
