Library - Learning Hub Open: 8.15am – 3.30pm daily; both recess periods.

The Kedron High Library Resource Centre(fully air-conditioned):
1. Houses resource collections which reflect the school curriculum: · Book Collection: Reference, Non-Fiction, Fiction, Teacher Reference.
· Audio-Visual Collection: Video, DVD, Kit, Maps, Charts, Pictures, Streaming Videos.
· Periodical Collections: Magazines, Journals
· ICT access - online learning communities, skills development
2. Provides a range of services for students and staff:
Each student may access Learning Hub support from the student drive which details a range of library services and procedures, the research process and critical thinking skills, instructions for searching databases such as Newstext at school and at home, hints on note-taking, and guidelines for using the Harvard style of referencing in assignments. We are currently working on establishing community partnerships with Brisbane City Council libraries and State Library of Queensland for online access to digital resources for our students. 3. Provides areas for teaching, research, reading and viewing: Appropriate areas accommodate multimedia presentations and group work (30 per each of the four areas), computer access (25), or independent/small group research work, quiet reading/listening/viewing. The centre can seat 165 students at any one time. 4. Promotes independent learning in students: The Library promotes independent learning, the acquisition of information literacy skills and provides a hub for students to develop information communication technology proficiency; thereby equipping students for life-long learning. 5.Encourages the development of Information Literacy skills: Information literacy is prioritised through explicit development of each stage of the research process, critical thinking and knowing how to use the ‘tools’ for research (the computer Catalogue, Reference books, Non-Fiction books, Computer applications, Databases, the Internet and Periodicals) 6. Promotes a wide range of resources and events: Special events and resources are promoted which enhance literacy and independent learning. INFORMATION LITERACY
