Career Prospects The study of Japanese language and culture provides students with exciting career opportunities in education, the diplomatic corps, interpreting, the travel industry, trade, design and fashion, the business world, commerce and law, science and technology and many other occupations.
CURRICULUM Japanese in the Junior School Students in Year 8 acquire the fundamentals of Japanese scripts and are able to communicate personal information through the skills of speaking and writing, and comprehend through listening and reading skills.
Year 9 and 10 students continue to develop competencies in the four skills studying topics such as : Introductions, Sports and Hobbies, A Healthy Lifestyle, Making Arrangements, My Neighbourhood, Weather and Seasons and Travel.
Japanese in the Senior School The Senior Course in Japanese aims to reinforce and extend the students' proficiency by offering a course in which the language functions, grammar and cultural understanding and the themes Family and Community; Leisure, Recreation and Human Creativity; School and Post School Options and Social Issues are integrated.
Cultural Experiences Students are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities such as restaurant visits, obentoo lunches, essay competitions and corresponding with penpals.
French At Kedron SHS
The AIM method, based on the use of oral skills, has been introduced in year 8. Lessons are conducted almost totally in French. Year 9 and 10 continue to develop the four competencies and expand their knowledge of French culture. Students are encouraged to participate in the Australian Language Certificate.
The Senior Course aims at reinforcing the previous acquisitions as well as introducing topics relevant for today’s teenagers which are integrated in the 4 themes of the Syllabus: health and social issues (Social issues), school in France and Australia (School and post-school options), teenagers’ values, environment (Family and community), trip to France, media (Leisure, Recreation and Human creativity).
The French department is also starting an exchange with a French school. Year 10-12 students have already had a chance to go and visit the school during a trip to France. Further exchanges are expected and a trip to France will be organised every other year for students from year 10 to year 12. Such a trip offers students a chance to practice their French in real life situations and to discover French culture.
Year 9 to12 students are also invited to take part in French immersion days where they are given the opportunity to meet other French students from around Brisbane and use the language.
