HARP PROGRAM Kedron SHS has become one of the rare schools in this state to own not one, but two harps, and offer fully-funded lessons within the music program. To teach the harp, the school has engaged the services of Mr Sebastien Lipman, a highly regarded performer and Lecturer in Harp at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. Lessons are being offered as an extension activity to a small group of gifted instrumental and classroom music students.
WOODWIND, BRASS, STRINGS AND PERCUSSION PROGRAM This extensive program provides students of all skill levels with the opportunity to learn a woodwind, brass, string or percussion instrument in addition to their timetabled subject selections. The primary aim of the Instrumental Music program is for students to develop an appreciation and enjoyment of music through ensemble performance. The success of the program is a team effort and depends on the commitment of each student towards the common goals of the program. Instrumental music lessons are scheduled during class time on a rotational basis to ensure students attend their instrumental lesson in a different period each week. The school offers a limited number of scholarships for music students and informtion may be obtained from the Head of Department.
PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES Throughout the year students from all areas of the music program are provided with performance opportunities. These include: • The EKKA • Local primary school events • School concerts – Chamber Music Concerts, Semester One Concert, Middle School Concert, and Semester Two Gala Concert • Fanfare • Academy of Music Festival • Annual training camp • Tour • Formal school occasions – Prefect Investiture, Kedron Week, Year 12 Awards Ceremony; Anzac Service • Creative Generation - State Schools on stage
KEDRON INSTRUMENTAL SUPPORT GROUP (K.I.M.S.) The Kedron Instrumental Support Group (KIMS) is a sub-committee of the P&C and, as the name suggests, acts to support the Instrumental Music Program. Informal, relaxed monthly meetings provide an opportunity for teachers and parents to meet to discuss the progress and requirements of the program. KIMS meetings occur in the Music Block on the 2nd Monday of each month from 7.00 – 8.00pm. The fortnightly school newsletter publishes the dates for all meetings. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC STAFF
