History PDF Print E-mail

Kedron State High School is situated on 33 acres of land which borders Kedron Brook. Originally within the area of the Enoggera tribe the site was used for horse racing from the 1880's. The colourful racing identity John Wren became a part owner of the established race course in 1912.

When the school opened as part of the expanding Queensland state educational system in 1956 some of the race course buildings were still in place. Over the years new buildings and landscaped grounds accommodated the growth in student numbers from 274 in 1956 to a maximum of 1700 in 1976.

The almost 20,000 students who have attended Kedron reflect both the changing Queensland population and the educational aspirations of those families who have chosen to send their students to the school. There has always been a multicultural mix in the school. A language census in 2003 approximately 40 languages are spoken within the school community.

The traditional academic curriculum of the school has provided a firm basis for many successful careers. Amongst the past students of the school are Professor Kenneth Wiltshire of the University of Queensland, the actress Rowena Wallace, Jason Barry - Smith the opera singer, the baseball player David Nilsson, the scientist Adrianne Pope and thousands of men and women who carry the Kedron name and education to all parts of the world in a diversity of occupations.

The school's motto is Niti est Nitere - To strive is to shine.
