DRAMA Our students learn their acting craft through a series of workshops presented during units of study in Years 8 - 12. The techniques of presentation provide effective means of delivering messages of social and cultural importance to audiences. In other words, DRAMA is more than just a pretty face. Here are some of the course highlights.
Year 8 Drama is offered on a trimester basis for all students during which the effects of Bullying are explored through roleplay and text analysis. This supports the Junior HRE program throughout the school and alerts students to the policy provided within the school structure.
Year 9 Drama is an elective course which begins with clowning and comedy as the students explore the elements of Drama through improvisation. The semester culminates in the student-devised children’s theatre production where a safety or health issue is presented in cooperation with teachers and students from a local Primary School.
Year 10 Drama students explore ritual and symbol and their impact on dramatic form and performance. They then have the opportunity to develop collage/documentary drama skills. Controversial issues, such as the “Tunnel” and its effects on the Kedron Community, offer students a chance to research and present their view of the political, social and environmental impacts of these issues. This course is also an elective over two semesters and prepares students for all aspects of Senior Drama.
Year 11 & 12 Drama students undertake a journey of dramatic form and style focusing on the artist. This comprehensive four semester Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) Senior Drama course provides students with the opportunity to explore heritage and contemporary forms of drama and use dramatic languages for expression. They will study, in Year 11: Forum Theatre (Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed), Realism (Stanislavski’s technique), Physical Theatre (Zen Zen Zo, Suzuki Theatre, Butoh) Process Drama and Scriptwriting. In Year 12, the students will explore the influence of dominant cultural paradigms on drama, the evolution of Australian Identity through dramatic text, Epic Theatre (Brecht) and finally audition technique and monologue delivery. Students will attend professional productions of relevant plays and present a public performance of their Physical Theatre assessment task in Year 11.
